David Davila will workshop scenes from his new play, ABUELAS, OR THE POVERTY CYCLE, beginning September 26th at the PlayGround Experiment in Manhattan. ABUELAS, OR THE POVERTY CYCLE is a new play that examines the causes and effects of the extremely high teen pregnancy rates among Latina women in South Texas. The play focuses on one household made up of six generations of single mothers all living under one roof at the same time. Can the cycle of young motherhood be broken or is this family doomed to repeat their mistakes?
The readings/workshops will be directed by Davila and will star Julia Botero, Alexandra Castro, Lizzette Cruz, and Selina Fonseca as the single mothers at the center of the story.
